Jota soup
It can be made with sour cabbage or sour turnips and potatoes, beans and a beat of ham or sausages.

- 500 g sour cabbage or sour turnips
- 500 g potatoes
- 1 medium onion
- 5 cloves of garlic
- 1 tsp red sweet paprika
- 300 g dried kidney beans
- salt to taste
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp caraway seeds
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 tbsp tomato pure
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 100 g bacon
Wash and soak the beans in water overnight.
Next day cook the potatoes and the beans separately.
In a frying pan over medium heat add the onion and chopped bacon with bay leave. After the bacon gets light brown color, add the cabbage.
Stir fry for few minutes then season with all the spices and crushed garlic, but leave the salt.
The cover the pan and cook for 15minutes.
Add the already cooked beans and potatoes. You can use the water from the cooking of the potatoes or beans to the pan.
