Zucchini and String Bean

The taste is salty sour with baked cheese, and the vegetables fight sweet and juicy.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 300 g zucchini (fresh, diced)
  • 400 g string beans (green beans, trimmed & cut)
  • 200 ml sour cream
  • 1 egg
  • 20 g butter
  • salt (to taste)
  • a pinch of nutmeg
  • a pinch of black pepper

Instructions

Prep the Beans

  • Bring a pot of salted water to a boil
  • Add string beans and cook for 5–7 minutes until tender
  • Drain and set aside.
  • Optional: Lightly sauté them in butter for extra flavor

Prepare the Zucchini

  • Dice zucchini into small cubes
  • In a frying pan, sauté with butter over medium heat for 5–6 minutes until slightly golden

Make the Creamy Topping

  • In a bowl, prepare the topping for the fold: sour cream, egg, salt, nutmeg and pepper and mix all the ingredients well. 
  • Add the grated cheese and mix the ingredients well again. This creates a rich, custard-like topping when baked.
  • Grease a baking dish and place the fried zucchini in the baking dish first and then the cooked and fried string beans.
  • Pour the topping evenly over the vegetables throughout the zucchini and string bean mixture.
  • Place the baking dish in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 35-40 minutes to keep the top nicely baked.

Notes

Use a semi-hard cheese like Balkan kashkaval or mozzarella for that perfect golden crust.
