Traditional Round Loaf
The round loaf is quintessential to Bulgarian culinary tradition and central to various rituals and customs, a symbol of hearth and hospitality and the cornerstone of various celebrations.
Ingredients
- 500 g white flour
- 100 ml lukewarm water
- 100 ml milk
- 100 ml canola oil
- 1 tbsp yeast
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp Kosher Salt
- 1 tbsp heaping honey
Instructions
- Mix yeast, warm milk, lukewarm water, and honey in a small bowl. Set in a warm place and until it bubbles.
- Place the flour in a large bowl; mix in the salt and form a well in the middle. Once the yeast has risen, pour the mixture into the well. Next add the oil and the beaten egg.
- Knead and form the dough. Let the dough come to a rise in a warm place.
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
